The JRB "Down to Earth" Pad Converter enables quilt users to convert their JRB quilt to a full bag.  The resultant “bag” is not intended as a super convenient mummy bag with zipper that is merely pulled from a stuff sack, shaken, and throw on a pad for use. It requires 2-3 minutes to assemble the quilt, pad, and if desired, hood into the “sleeping bag” mode.  Entry and exit is done by sliding in and out from the top.  While it provides some padding, its primary purpose is to provide bottom insulation and to seal out the drafts some people experience using quilts.  The pad will turn any JRB 48 inch wide quilt into a full, draft free sleeping bag.  It requires a quilt modification to add omni-tape on the full length of each lateral edge of the quilt (purchased separately).  In warmer weather the pad may be used separately (un-attached) for better ventilation or even left at home.

The JRB "Down to Earth" Pad Converter was designed with the ground sleepers’ need in mind.  However, it may also be used separately, or partially connected with top quilts in a hammock.  It provides the hammocker with a viable go to ground capability when needed.  Like any pad, it can be used in a variety of insulating roles around camp.  It works as a sit pad, and/or as a back pad on some ultra-light backpacks.  On cold nights it may also be used inside the hammock to extend the range of an under quilt.
