Description: The Rocky Mountain Sniveller is a true Winter quilt capable of keeping a sleeper warm down to single digit temperatures. It was designed for Francis Tapon's YOYO of the Continental Divide Trail, where camps were frequently expected in the 10-14,000 feet range, under winter conditions. Tapon, a Super Ultra Light, long distance and Triple Crown hiker, and author of Hike Your Own Hike, used the prototype model of the JRB Rocky Mountain Sniveller and a JRB Down Hood as his sleep system and primary camp insulation. The Rocky Mountain Sniveller was specifically designed for use as a top quilt with a foot sack capability and can be used either on the ground or in a hammock. The design includes: a re-sealable head hole so the quilt can be worn as a poncho/serape on cold mornings and evenings in camp; omni-tape hook and loop and draw string to form a foot sack; and all the standard JRB attachment loops allowing it to be used as an under quilt (attachment instructions) with the standard JRB Suspension System (sold separately). When used on the ground, a popular modification is the Full Length Omni-Tape that enables the use of either the Down to Earth Pad Converter to create a full bag or the Quilt Wings to provide extra material on the sides for a better tuck. The Rocky Mountain Sniveller comes with a 1.5 oz. silnyl compression sack that allows it to be stuffed to 8”x8”x9”.
The Rocky Mountain Sniveller is nominally a 76” x 48” x 3.5”, 26 ounce, down quilt. It is baffled to 2.9 inches and is over stuffed to achieve 3.5 inches of loft. The shell is two color, 1.1 ounce rip-stop nylon with DWR treatment. It has a light, subdued outer color for aesthetic appearance and reflective qualities and a black inside for warmth retention and to facilitate field drying (colors may vary depending on availability). The baffle are constructed with no-see-um netting and the quilt is filled with 800+ fill power down.
