Description

Big Meadows wide three-season quilt is conservatively rated to 20°F (-7°C) and is designed for restless sleepers who move around a lot.

Big Meadows wide three-season quilt is similar in size and shape to the Sierra Sniveller Wearable Quilt. The head end is 56 inches (1.42 m)  wide down to the midpoint and tapers to 46 (1.17m) inches at the foot end. Three tabs along the sides provide attachment points to secure the quilt around a pad if desired. A foot box can be formed using snaps and a drawcord. You can form pockets that keep your shoulders warm while you toss and turn using snaps and a drawcord at the head end.

Down: 850 FIll Power certified Responsible Down Standard (RDS). Fill power is a measurement of how much space one ounce of down will occupy when lofted, measured in cubic inches. Since the temperature rating of a quilt is based on how much loft there is, quilts using a higher fill power down will require less down by weight to achieve a specific temperature rating than a bag using a lower fill power down.

Overstuff: The Big Meadows is optimized with a 33% over-stuff by weight.  Markedly reducing down migration and enabling the quilt to maintain its rating if the down loses loft between cleanings. Consequently, we do not recommend any additional over-stuffing.

Compression Sack:  We recommend the large size compression sack for the Big Meadows Wide Summer Quilt.

Excellent so far. Top quality. Have used it only one night thus far. It got down to the low 40s. Was wearing only a tee-shirt and underwear. I was toasty, even a bit too warm. Great price relative to other manufacturers and it’s light weight. Would gladly buy again.

This is a long overdue review of the Big Meadows, but after almost a year of enjoying this quilt along with 40+ nights which includes a February-March section on the AT of 300 miles, I can confidently state this quilt is amazing! Here are the details….

My first 3 nights on the AT dipped into the teens with howling winds and freezing rain. After the first night, I knew I didn’t have to worry wether this quilt could hold up to the winter weather. I was so warm and had zero cold spots.

For reference, I am 6’2” with broad shoulders. I used the long version of this quilt and I had plenty of room in length and width. I am also a side sleeping ground dweller and the width of this quilt was great and allowed me to toss and turn all night and not have the quilt lift up to let in cold air. I use a pad attachment system when the temps are below 30 in order to seal in all my body heat and the gross grain loops were placed perfectly along the sides for me to secure the quilt and keep me draft free.

I asked the crew at Jacks if they could make this quilt ultralight and they made me a .67 argon quilt with overstuff and it came in at a scant 22.9oz which is insanely light for a quilt that kept me warm into the teens. The loft on this quilt is insane which is an important quality in a great quilt.

Long story short, as someone who has been using quilts for a decade, I highly recommend this quilt for anyone considering buying one.
