The Katahdin Quilt (0F)

(1 customer review)

The JRB Family of Large Quilts are outdoor/indoor multiple use quilts filled with high quality 800FP down. Each includes a draw string on each end and Double Sided Kam Snaps to form a foot box. At 85” x 61” they are huge yet weigh between 30 and 36 ounces, depending on the model.

The Katahdin is a winter quilt, baffled to 3 inches and over stuffed to achieve 3.5 inches of loft. It packs to 8 inches in diameter by 11 inches tall and is a soft package that will mold around other items in your pack.

Compression Sack: A lot of folks no longer use compressions sacks and instead keep their quilts dry inside a lawn contractor bag or trash compactor liner.  We do not want anyone to have to pay for something they do not want so now we offer them separately.

Activ-dri down™ – Activ-dri™ is a hydrophobic down treatment that keeps the down drier, while having no adverse effects on loft, fill power, or warmth retention. Activ-dri down is still down insulation and should be protected from direct exposure to moisture. All types of insulation, whether down or synthetic, will degrade in insulation capability if wetted.

So, I have the honor of making the first review for this great product 🙂
I bought this quilt for me and my boyfriend for our around the world trip in 2012. We wanted to travel light and only chose stuff that we could easily convert to multiple purposes. On our 10 month trip we had one 30 liter backpack and one 52 liter.

This quilt was such a good purchase for that trip. We slept under it in various couch surfing and hiking places in the nature from New Zealand to Asia. It performed perfectly for both of us. I’m a sleeper that roams alot and over heat easily, where my boyfriend is a static sleeper that keeps nicely warm all night long. This quilt accommodated both of us beautifully! I could easily get my legs our for cooling effect and getting in and out from under it without disturbing my partner was a breeze.

Underneath us we have two air filled insulated pads that we attach together with two strings (we dont use storage bags for our pads, instead when we pack them up we tie them up with the same strings we use for attaching the pads together). For colder climates I actually hacked two stretchy cords that I could attach quickly between the quilt and the strings that keep our pads together. This took away the possibility of drafts completely and we both kept warm and cozy even in colder climates.

Since returning from our trip we have used the quilt in our hikes around Finnish nature for the past 4 years. From the first use of this quilt I have been an avid supporter of quilts over sleeping bags and am currently even thinking about buying the Sierra Sniveler just that I could also start going for hikes alone or in friend groups 🙂

5/5 one of the best hiking equipment I have ever owned and well worth the money.
