Description

The Big Meadows summer backpacking quilt is comfort rated to 40ºF. The wide half-taper design accommodates side sleepers.   Lightweight, low volume and generous coverage make it the perfect summer backpacking quilt for thru-hikers, section hikers, and weekend getaways. The Big Meadows also works as a camping quilt for car camping trips.

Big Meadows Summer Backpacking Quilt Details:

  • Size And Shape:
    • The head end is 56″  wide down to the midpoint and tapers to 46″ at the foot end.
  • Down: 850 FIll Power certified Responsible Down Standard (RDS). Fill power is a measurement of how much space one ounce of down will occupy when lofted, measured in cubic inches. Since the temperature rating of a camping quilt is based on how much loft there is, quilts using a higher fill power down will require less down by weight to achieve a specific temperature rating than a bag using a lower fill power down.
  • Over-stuff: Big Meadows Summer Backpacking Quilts are optimized with a 33% over-stuff.  Besides reducing downshifting it also enables the camping quilt to maintain its rating if the down loses loft between cleanings. Subsequently, we do not recommend any additional overstuffing.
  • Tabs: Three tabs along the sides provide attachment points to secure the quilt around a pad if desired.
  • Foot Box: The standard footbox is formed with a drawcord, cord locks, and double-sided Kam Snaps. This allows the quilt to be left as a blanket for easy venting in the summer,  or multiple quilts to be stacked in colder temperatures.
  • Shoulder Pockets: Use the snaps and a drawcord at the head end to form pockets that keep your shoulders warm while you toss and turn.
  • Long-Term Storage: All Big Meadows Summer Backpacking Quilts come in a storage bag. This bag does not compress the quilt and allows airflow. Consequently makes it perfect for long-term quilt storage.
  • Packing: We recommend using a lawn contractor bag while backpacking to keep your summer backpacking quilt dry while allowing it to expand or compress to evenly fill available space in your backpack.  Alternatively, we offer compression sacks separately for individuals looking to pack their quilt into the smallest space possible.

  1. Dennis “Peppy”

I was looking for an UL, large quilt, to use for laying in colder weather, and have plenty of wiggle room in warmer weather. JRB sure hooked me up! Mine is moroccan blue .67, and stuffed with 800fp down! Love the quality, and appreciate so much the quick customization to meet my needs! Lots of gear available on the market today, but I’ve never been disappointed in the performance, customer service, or the speed in which JRB has built its reputation!

Purchased an UL Big Meadows (40 degrees) for a summer outing in the mountains of NM. It worked as advertised. Quite comfortable down to 40 degrees. The temperature got down to 35 one night and I had to wear an extra layer of clothing, but that was to be expected. It only weighs 15.7 oz.!

  3. Thomas Jervey

I bought my long version of the Big Meadows 40° quilt in Damascus at Trail Days to complete the hotter months on my AT thru-hike. It has been great from 40 degrees up. I am delighted to have it and got great support from the owner. I even met person who completed sewing my bag and she autographed my bag for me. Five AND a half stars, iwere it possible.

Just received my big meadows . I am blown away. Light as a feather and easy to pack. Definitely warm enough for where I live in the south. We get maybe 2 to 3 months a year where we see temps below 45 degrees. And the quality is amazing.
