Description
The FIRST commercially available hammock underquilt for the Hennessy hammock in the world. Introduced in May 2004, the Nest is the underquilt that started our business. The Nest is designed as an underquilt for Hennessy hammock.
Stop wrestling with pads inside the hammock. Stop waking up cold in the middle of the night. The “Nest” underquilt for Hennessy hammocks retains the convenience of the Hennessy bottom entrance with a split entrance w/non-snagging, mixed hook & loop (fastens to itself) that attaches to the Hennessy’s entrance hook and loop. The “Nest” attaches to the hammock in under a minute without sewing or special hardware (attachment instructions). It comes with a JRB Suspension System and the improved foot end draw cord modification to assist in elimination of the dead air pocket that sometimes is experienced under the legs.
Hammock Underquilt Features
- Hammock Fit –The Nest down hammock underquilt works on bottom eentry Hennessy Hammocks.
- Down: 850 FIll Power certified Responsible Down Standard (RDS). Fill power is a measurement of how much space one ounce of down will occupy when lofted, measured in cubic inches. Since the temperature rating of a quilt is based on how much loft there is, quilts using a higher fill power down will require less down by weight to achieve a specific temperature rating than a bag using a lower fill power down.
- Overstuff: The Nest is optimized with a 33% over-stuff by weight. Markedly reducing down migration and enabling the quilt to maintain its rating if the down loses loft between cleanings. Consequently, we do not recommend any additional over-stuffing.
- Long-Term Storage: All Jacks R Better hammock Underquilts come in a storage bag that does not compress the quilt and allows airflow. Consequently, the packaging is perfect for long-term quilt storage.
- Packing: Use a lawn and leaf bag to keep your hammock underquilt dry while backpacking. It will help evenly fill the space in your pack. Additionally, we offer compression sacks separately for individuals looking to pack their quilt into the smallest space possible.
Note:
-The Nest is specifically for bottom entry Hennessy Hammocks. For side/zip entry Hennessy Hammocks we recommended the Mount Washington 3 underquilt.
-We offer the Winter Nest as a 0° version of the same quilr

I bought two of these back in 2006 when my wife and I first got our HH bottom entry hammocks. On the first trip temps dropped below freezing and we were plenty warm with our Nests under us and just light summer bags as top quilts.

Picked these up a few weeks ago for my HH. AMAZING! price is well worth it!

Outstanding pieces of gear. Purchased the Nest to use with my HH Classic. I have limited mobility so needed something that was a set up, no sitting up to adjust kind of gear. I got it with the Nest. Once I got it set up on the HH I get into the hammock lay back and the Nest pops right into place.
I have had it out at 32F and no cold spots. I could not be happier.

MADE IN THE USA
So I used this the first day I got it. I spent the weekend in the yard and used a fleece blanket on top then the next night used a 30 degree mummy. Both with no issues staying warm at all; 50’s at night. Just as a trial run, testing and learning.
I have used it several times at our scouting events without any issues in an open field (not on ground). It stays in place very well and covers head to toe and I’m 5’11”. It has definitely blocked some serious wind/rain and remained warm/dry. Temp’s ranged from 40’s-50’s and 80+. I found that draping it a little keeps the wind from whipping all of the warmth away from me so I can vent a little if I get too hot.
I camped at Black Mountain in the Smokies where it rained sideways. The fly I was using failed to block all of the rain and it collected in the quilt, between the hammock. It never got the down wet and there was a standing puddle inside. No wonder my butt was cold. It worked swimmingly tho (pun intended).
I also used this little guy at the summit of Mt. Mitchell, NC; 6,684 feet, the highest point east of the Mississippi. It was the coldest weather I’ve been in using the hammock/nest…but not an issue while using this and the 30 degree mummy bag. My friend had to stay in the car overnight, his hammock wasn’t warm enough. My feet got chilly and I survived the night. The wind was whipping everything around and the rain was unbelievable. I tied the hex-fly straight down on both sides and slept like a baby…with cold feet. My feet are normally cold tho.
I thoroughly recommend the Nest, it’s fantastic. I have had no problem with the durability or warmth in several environments/conditions. I’ve got more scouting trips to look forward to. I’ve used it all on the Bartram Trail / AT section near the NOC. It’s all very lightweight and versatile. Being active duty military JRB helped me out with generous discount. The customer service was outstanding! I’ll be getting my top quilt shortly (Sierra Stealth). I’m excited to do more business!

This will be a two part review. The first part will be my initial impression and “back yard” testing and the second will be after an actual hiking trip in cold weather. First off, let me say how impressed I am with JRB’s inquiry response time and how quickly I received my nest. It only took two days to have my nest delivered. The quality of this product was immediately apparent, and I was surprised by the light weight. It was much lighter than my old sleeping bag, which is rated to a warmer temperature. I couldn’t wait to try out set up, and lay in it for a minute. The setup was quick and easy, and fit my Hennessy Ultralight Backpacker like a glove. Today was 32 degrees and windy, and I didn’t set up with a tarp. It felt like I had a heated blanket under me, the wind and freezing weather had no effect, and it was all I could do not to stay in my hammock all afternoon. Take-down was equally easy. I can’t wait to take it on an overnight trip and see how cold it can get while keeping me comfortable. Next purchase will be the Sniveler! Keep up the good work JRB!

This combined with the Snivler is what has kept me in a hammock for 10 years. I was dissatisfied with everything I’d bought and tried for a year or two before discovering JRB.
It seemed a staggering amount of money at the time for 3 pounds of fluff, but I took a chance, trying to save the dream off hammock camping. JRB slayed the 2 biggest dragons in one transaction. The nest may need some adjustment to get it perfect, but it can be done! So amazing to wake up with frost on everything, and not even realize the temperature had vdropped.

Very impressed with this underquilt. I have had a HH Ultralight for about 12 years now but I have always used a small pad to keep my butt warm. Decided to treat myself and try out the 20 nest, and it works great. Haven’t done a true overnight yet but did spend 5 hours in the hammock in high 20s with a stiff wind and stayed nice and warm with a 40 degree bag loose on top. Easy set up if you watch the how to first.
